The Weekly Redeem

by Mike Vardy on July 10, 2009

Redemption Is EventualI’ve been asked many times about the long-term effects of Eventualism.  How does one know if they’re on the right track?  Today I’ve decided to answer these questions, as I’ve been eventual enough in getting them to you.  You should expect no more or less from me in that regard.

Over the long haul, you’ll find that practicing Eventualism and applying EffTD to your daily life will create eventuality in everything you do.  Whether it be unpacking from a recent move to cleaning out your desk to cleaning out the cat litter to stalking an unrequited love, eventually something will come of it and an end will be more than nigh.  It will just be.

But how do you keep track and ensure you’re eventually becoming more eventual in nature?  The answer to the first question is…you don’t.  Keeping track is not only counter-eventual, it is for suckers.  There is no way for you to keep track of everything in your head.  I can’t even do that, so I know it will be impossible for you to do so. I know the truth can hurt sometimes, but I’m just shooting from the lip here.

But how does one ensure that they are becoming better at eventualizing?  There is a way…you follow through on something I like to call The Weekly Redeem.

Since this is Friday, it goes with saying that I reveal this tool to you now as some would say this is the end of the work week.  Others would not say this, and have other things you should probably do as well.  The fact I’m posting this late on Friday should go without saying whatsoever.

The Weekly Redeem is a simple checklist that allows you to attempt to control the things that you have either let slip out of control (novice Eventualist) or firmly believed you never had control of in the first place (advanced Eventualist).  Examples of the former are:

  • not filing your income taxes
  • that project you were supposed to complete for work last month
  • feeding your pet

Examples of the latter would be:

  • not paying your income taxes
  • that project you were supposed to complete for work last year
  • feeding the garden that you buried your pet in

The checklist is downloadable here.  You’ll find that it works best after eventually downloading it (using a dial-up connection is the best method of eventual downloading) and then – even more eventually – reading it.  It will become third or fourth nature to you after going through it in actuality a few times.  Remember, The Weekly Redeem is imperative to ensure that you maintain ongoing EffTDing and eventualizing an eventuality.
