But before I get into that, I’ve got a few quick announcements:
1. Due to circumstances well within my control, I’ve decided to extend the “This Brand Is Your Brand” contest until November 30th, 2009. Since the number of entries was over-underwhelming – which was expected as you are all working hard and hardly working at EffTDing – I’m going to institute the new eventual deadline. For more info on said contest, looky-looky.
2. I’ve got an interview on the podcast with Abe Crystal of GetEncouraged, another step forward and the forthcoming Ruzuku on tap in the coming days. Watch for it and then listen to it.
3. In the spirit of both Hallowe’en and the commercialism that envelops it, there’s a scary deal on the renowned think drink Brain Toniq right now. I only mention this because it’s my alternative to booze, it’s breaking news and it earns me some revenues. Go here to get some and use the coupon code ORANGE to get an 18% discount. It will only be good until Monday October 12, 2009. (NOT VALID ON WHOLESALE or AUTO-SHIP ORDERS)
Now, about that book…
The recent torrid writing pace of MCM over at 1889.ca had an unusual effect on me. First, I felt really sick to my stomach – but not in a “puke my guts out” sort of way. I also lacked my usual lethargy, which I found disconcerting…but not disconcerting enough to ponder it ad nauseam until I became more lethargic. It was wonderfully strange and strangely wonderful all at the same time. Apparently, this is what inspiration feels like.
What happened next was even more bizarre. I began to read up on writing. I was using my eyes for this as opposed to my ears, which hurt at first but then went away…eventually. As I read I began to read over something I’d never done before – read this very blog. Normally I was just poetic with some form of unroutine that I’ve developed and the words just make sense as I type them. Many of them come out in complete sentences as well, which leaves me feeling
After going over my a-musings, I came to the conclusion that I could take some of what I’ve written here, combine it with stuff that I haven’t written and add in a dash of stuff I know next to nothing about and I’d have a book on my hands…which would then be in your hands when you went out and got it. Which you would do, of course.
So I reached out to writers who I held in high esteem. None returned my calls while others reminded me of the restraining orders they had, so I went back to MCM’s site. He’s written a lot of books, some of which he hasn’t even written. I spoke with him over Skype (which is like a phone on your computer!) and he sounded really tired. He said he was working on some projects that involved a lot of work and a lot of me concentrating on what he was talking about. I would have hung up on him but lifting my computer up and setting it back down on the desk won’t hang up Skype – and I wasn’t about to lift my computer regardless because it is rather heavy.
All this “work” and I still hadn’t written anything. You see, writing a book is hard – even before writing it.
Maybe I’ll do a movie first, then do a book based on the movie. Except for the fact that the director would be yelling “Action” all the time, something I have a tough time doing.
Sigh. I’ll write the book. But on my own terms and in my own time, like how Elvis Motello sung.
